At Peak Childcare and Kindergarten, our Centre Chef is far more than someone who prepares meals. They are an integral part of our centre community and play a vital role in the daily experiences of children, families and educators.
Our cook is often one of the first friendly faces families see each day, building meaningful connections and contributing to the warm, welcoming culture that defines Peak Childcare and Kindergarten. Our food program is a valued part of our curriculum and reflects our commitment to nurturing the whole child. We believe that mealtimes provide opportunities for connection, learning and community, and our Centre Chef plays a key role in bringing this vision to life.
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Centre Chef to join our Peak Childcare and Kindergarten family.
This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in preparing high-quality meals, understands the importance of nutrition in early childhood, and enjoys being part of a warm and collaborative team environment.
As our Centre Chef, you will be at the heart of our centre's operations, supporting children's health and wellbeing while building meaningful relationships with families, children and educators. You will become a valued member of our community and play an important role in creating the positive and welcoming atmosphere that makes Peak Childcare and Kindergarten special.
This is a Monday to Friday position with no weekend, evening or public holiday work required, allowing you to enjoy a healthy work-life balance.
Plan and prepare nutritious, balanced and appealing meals and snacks for children aged 6 weeks to Kindergarten.
Develop seasonal menus that align with the Australian Dietary Guidelines and support healthy eating habits.
Cater for individual dietary requirements, allergies, medical conditions and cultural preferences in accordance with service policies and procedures.
Maintain the highest standards of food safety, hygiene and kitchen cleanliness in accordance with relevant legislation and food handling requirements.
Manage food ordering, stock rotation, inventory control and budget requirements.
Minimise food waste through effective planning and sustainable kitchen practices.
Build positive relationships with children, families and educators, promoting healthy eating and positive mealtime experiences.
Support centre events, celebrations and cultural experiences through food and shared mealtimes.
Work collaboratively with the leadership team to continuously improve the centre's food and nutrition program.
Ensure all food preparation records, temperature logs and compliance documentation are accurately maintained.

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene and allergy management.

Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification.
Current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
Current Queensland Blue Card (Working with Children Check) or willingness to obtain.
Previous experience in a commercial kitchen environment.
Experience preparing meals for children or within the education, healthcare or community sector is highly desirable.
Understanding of allergy management and special dietary requirements.
