About Yara Pilbara

Yara Pilbara is part of Yara International, a global crop nutrition company. The Pilbara site is one of the world's largest ammonia production facilities, with downstream processing through the Yara Pilbara Nitrates Technical Ammonium Nitrate plant, a joint venture with Orica. Together with ENGIE, Yara Pilbara is also developing a renewable hydrogen plant to produce renewable ammonia.

Are you ready to apply your knowledge in a real-world environment? Yara Pilbara is seeking motivated Graduate Engineers to join our 3-year fixed-term Graduate Program, gaining hands-on experience in a world-class ammonia and nitrates production facility.

This is a unique opportunity to develop your technical and professional capabilities while contributing to safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.

About the Opportunity

As a Graduate Mechanical Engineer, you will gain practical experience within the Maintenance and Projects Department, working closely with Static Engineers on reliability, maintenance, and project-related activities.

You will commence in January/February 2027, aligned with the completion of your university studies and subject to successfully obtaining your degree.

Throughout the program, you will:

  • Support maintenance and reliability-based projects, working closely with operations, maintenance, and project teams
  • Assist in planning, budgeting, cost control, and job prioritisation activities
  • Coordinate jobs, review scopes, ensure quality execution, post-job documentation and SAP update
  • Assist in drafting scope of works for static projects and liaising with Procurement team for tendering process
  • Apply engineering principles in analyzing static loads, pressure loads, thermal expansion, vibration effects, and piping support stress calculations.
  • Contribute to preventive maintenance processes and asset management practices
  • Participate in quality inspections, equipment assessments and commissioning activities.
  • Perform data analysis, root cause analysis, and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Develop experience in contractor management, job coordination, and safety planning
  • Build knowledge of Major Hazard Facility requirements, engineering standards, and statutory compliance
  • Gain exposure to condition monitoring, static equipment (pressure vessels, piping, valves), and applicable codes and standards (ASME, API, AS, ISO)
  • Support plant reliability, efficiency, and cost optimisation initiatives
  • Apply a systematic and analytical approach to problem-solving and decision-making
  • Review and assist in drafting Engineering drawings in AutoCAD
  • Compliance with Safety and regulatory requirements for pressure vessels, PRV's and Inspection / Asset integrity requirements
  • Complete required HESQ training, participate in emergency response activities, and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment (including opportunities to take on site emergency roles)

You will also benefit from structured on-the-job learning, with a strong focus on developing your competence, completing training programs, and progressing toward Chartered Engineer status (Engineers Australia PDP).



Profile description:

To be successful, you will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with Masters/Honours or equivalent
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), with fluency in English essential
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • A proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous learning and development
  • The ability to perform work responsibly, minimising risks and potential issues
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Australian or New Zealand citizenship, or permanent residency (temporary visa holders are not eligible)
  • A willingness to relocate to Karratha, WA for the duration of the program
