Mechanical Project Engineer

The Opportunity

We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Project Engineer to support delivery of a range of capital and sustaining projects within a large-scale mining operation. This role is site-based and focused on end-to-end project execution, from concept and design through to construction and commissioning support.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Provide site-based engineering support, preferably within mining or other heavy industrial environments.
• Perform basic mechanical engineering calculations including pipe sizing, pressure drop analysis, pump curve reviews, and similar assessments.
• Develop concept designs and sketches using AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or equivalent tools.
• Coordinate with site electrical, structural, and other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.
• Manage small to medium-sized projects, including planning, scheduling, and delivery using Microsoft Project.
• Prepare and present monthly project reports, tracking progress, cost, and schedule performance.
• Develop detailed scopes of work for external design consultants and site contractors.
• Prepare cost estimates and contribute to project business cases and funding approvals.
• Lead and manage the design phase, including engaging consultants, coordinating site visits, and responding to RFIs and technical queries.
• Oversee construction activities with support from site supervisors, ensuring safe, timely, and compliant execution of works.

 

About You

• Mechanical Engineering background with strong practical understanding of plant and equipment.
• Previous site experience in mining, minerals processing, heavy industry, or similar environments.
• Comfortable performing basic engineering calculations and reviewing mechanical designs.
• Competent in Microsoft Project and familiar with project reporting and scheduling tools.
• Able to communicate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and manage contractors and consultants.
• Strong practical mindset with the ability to balance engineering design, site execution, and project delivery.
