Are you a hands-on technical draftsperson looking for a fast-paced role with lots of day-to-day variety?

Do you spend your spare time working on cars, tinkering in the garage, or modifying vehicles? If so, your practical understanding of vehicle layouts and mechanical systems could make you an excellent fit for this team.

The role

In this diverse role, no two days will look the same. Your primary focus will be on producing detailed CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and "as-built" documentation to the highest industry standards.

You will play a key role throughout the entire product development lifecycle, creating and maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs), managing data within ERP systems, and developing accurate Methods of Manufacture (MOMs). You will work closely with production and sourcing teams to ensure technical documentation is accurate and up to date, and review customer specifications and standards to ensure compliance with project requirements.

As part of the broader engineering team, you will participate in engineering risk reviews and collaborate directly with workshop personnel and suppliers to resolve technical drafting queries. The role offers a high level of variety and autonomy, making it well-suited to someone who enjoys taking ownership of their drafting workload while contributing to project planning, estimating, and continuous improvement initiatives.

A background in heavy fabrication would be highly valued; however, strong experience working with sheet metal products is particularly desirable. Knowledge of plastic welding would be a distinct advantage and would help set you apart from other applicants.

This role would particularly suit someone with a genuine interest in vehicles and manufacturing who enjoys seeing their designs progress from concept through to production.

Your new employer

You will be joining a large, stable, and highly regarded manufacturer in the Hunter region.

As part of a supportive and friendly team, you'll work in an environment where colleagues know each other by name and take the time to connect, whether in the office, hallways, or on the workshop floor.

About you

You will bring significant experience in providing drafting support for mechanical engineering projects, including constructability reviews, component detailing, and coordinating drafting activities among multiple stakeholders. Proficiency with Inventor and Vault CAD software is highly desirable, along with a strong understanding of relevant engineering and manufacturing standards.

You will have a keen eye for detail and a commitment to producing accurate, right-first-time documentation, ensuring designs are practical, manufacturable, and minimise rework on the workshop floor. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with engineering, production, and workshop teams will be essential to your success in this role.
