ABOUT WELDBEAT
Weldbeat Pty Ltd is a successful Australian manufacturing business based in Alexandria, NSW. We design and manufacture premium, locally made off-road and adventure van accessories for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and Volkswagen Crafter markets, supplying both retail customers and Australia's leading professional van builders.
Our entire product range: including bumper/bull bars, wheel and cargo carriers, side steps and ladders, the modular Safari roof rack system, underbody protection and more - is our own intellectual property, designed and engineered in-house. Every product is proudly Australian Made and Designed and engineered for serious off-road and touring use. Following rapid and sustained growth, we are expanding our in-house engineering capability and inviting applications for a permanent Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and engineering of our product range.
THE ROLE
The Mechanical Engineer is technical role responsible for the end-to-end mechanical design, engineering and validation of Weldbeat's product range. The role combines hands-on product design and advanced CAD development with engineering analysis, materials selection, manufacturing engineering and technical leadership of our growing design team. This is a permanent, full-time, ongoing position based at our Alexandria facility.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the end-to-end mechanical design and engineering of Weldbeat's product range, from concept through to production-ready manufacturing drawings.
- Select appropriate materials based on strength, weight, durability, corrosion resistance and manufacturability requirements.
- Perform engineering calculations and analysis to validate structural integrity, load capacity, fatigue resistance and durability.
- Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) and engineering assessments for off-road operating conditions.
- Evaluate compliance with applicable Australian Standards and vehicle accessory requirements.
- Develop engineering specifications, test procedures and validation programs.
- Investigate product failures and implement engineering improvements.
- Produce high-fidelity 3D models and manufacturing documentation, primarily in Autodesk Inventor.
- Define and maintain engineering, quality-control, installation and manufacturing standards across the product range.
- Provide engineering oversight and technical guidance to manufacturing operations to ensure products are produced in accordance with engineering specifications, quality standards and design intent.
- Develop new products and adapt the range to additional van platforms and new accessory categories.
- Build and lead a team of additional draftspersons and designers as the business scales, and support collaboration with universities such as UTS to attract, mentor and develop young local engineering talent.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- A Master degree in Mechanical Engineering (or an overseas qualification assessed as equivalent to an Australian Master degree).
- At least three (3) years of relevant professional experience in a mechanical engineering and design role.
- Expert-level proficiency in 3D CAD, with Autodesk Inventor essential; experience with Autodesk Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Solid Edge and AutoCAD highly desirable.
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical product design, engineering analysis (including FEA), materials selection and manufacturing engineering.
- Experience producing manufacturing drawings and specifications for fabrication, welding and machining.
- Working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards applicable to structural and vehicle-accessory products.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
