About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Mechanical Designer to join our Engineering team based on Thornton. This role plays a key part in delivering high-quality 2D and 3D design and drafting solutions that support product development, equipment overhauls, repairs, modifications, and lifecycle management and activities.
Working closely with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and field services teams, you will contribute to the development of innovative and practical engineering solutions while ensuring designs meet quality, compliance, manufacturability, and customer requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically skilled designer who enjoys working in a collaborative environment, and has a strong background in heavy industry, OEM manufacturing or mining equipment sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Produce detailed 2D drawings, 3D models, Bills of Materials, and engineering documentation to required standards
Support product development, repair designs, equipment modifications and engineering projects
Collaborate with engineering manufacturing, supply chain, and field service teams to deliver successful project outcomes
Provide feedback on manufacturability, assembly and serviceability during the design phase
Ensure engineering documentation complies with company procedures, industry standards, and legislative requirements
Deliver cost-effective engineering solutions that support value optimisation and project objectives
Contribute to a culture of safety, quality and continuous improvement
Manage project deliverables, task status reporting, and engineering documentation
What We're Looking For
Certificate in Engineering Drafting, Diploma, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 5 years' experience in drafting/design within heavy industry, OEM manufacturing, mining equipment or related sectors
Strong knowledge of AS1100 and relevant drafting standards
Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Creo or Inventor
Experience using PDM systems, such as Windchill or Vault
Knowledge and experience with Underground Coal Legislation, Regulation and governance
Strong understanding of mechanical systems, manufacturing processes, materials, and tolerances
Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, high-quality engineering documentation
Lean manufacturing and Design for Manufacturability experience
