Air Radiators is a leading Australian manufacturer of specialised heat transfer and engineered cooling solutions. For over 50 years we have designed and manufactured customised products for customers across mining, defence, transport, power generation and industrial sectors.

About the Role

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Gillman team.

This is a diverse role that combines product design, CAD drafting, engineering documentation and hands-on production support. Working closely with production, purchasing, sales and customers, you will take projects from concept through to manufacture and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create 3D models and detailed manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks

  • Prepare engineering documentation including BOMs and technical data packs

  • Design customised products to meet customer requirements and manufacturing capabilities

  • Support production teams with technical advice, troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Review and implement engineering changes and drawing updates

  • Liaise with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders throughout projects

  • Assist with product development and improvement of existing designs

  • Ensure designs are practical, manufacturable and cost-effective

  • Maintain engineering records, drawings and document control systems

  • Participate in problem-solving activities and root cause investigations

  • Provide technical support across manufacturing, purchasing and quality functions

About You

  • Mechanical Engineering qualification or relevant drafting/design experience

  • Strong SolidWorks and 3D CAD skills

  • Experience preparing detailed manufacturing drawings

  • Understanding of fabrication, welding and manufacturing processes

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Practical, hands-on approach with a willingness to support production activities

 Desirable

  • Experience in engineer-to-order (ETO) manufacturing environments

  • Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication and welding

  • Understanding of GD&T principles

  • Experience creating and managing BOMs

  • Exposure to Product Data Management (PDM) systems
