About the Role

Under the direction of the Food Services Manager, the Weekend/Afternoon Chef plays an important role within our boarding community, supporting the delivery of a high-quality, nutritious catering service predominantly for our boarding students.

This role is well suited to a culinary professional who values healthy, well-balanced food services, enjoys contributing to a positive dining environment and understands the importance of food safety regulations.

The Weekend / Afternoon Chef position is permanent part-time in nature. The engagement is 19 hours per week, 38 weeks per year (term time only), primarily covering afternoon, evening and weekend shifts as rostered.

Key Responsibilities

Our Weekend / Afternoon Chef has a meaningful opportunity to build strong relationships and make a positive difference in the lives of our boarding students by:

  • Independently preparing, cooking, and presenting high-quality dinners for up to 108 boarders and 10 boarding staff.

  • Maintaining a clean, hygienic, and safe kitchen environment while adhering strictly to food safety regulations and WHS guidelines.

  • Supervising and supporting kitchen hands, providing guidance and leadership during shifts when the Food Services Manager is not on duty.

  • Assisting with stock and inventory management, including the ordering, receipting, and sustainable management of goods and kitchen waste.

About You

You are a passionate, responsible and collaborative culinary professional who understands the importance of creating a safe, hygienic, and nurturing food services environment. You value delivering exceptional service and are committed to maintaining positive, respectful interactions across a diverse school community.

Skills and Experience:

  • Sound knowledge of food handling principles, food safety regulations, and dietary requirements.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the capacity to work effectively and independently during weekend and evening shifts.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a friendly disposition and a collaborative team focus.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a commercial kitchen environment, preferably within a boarding school or residential care setting

Qualifications and Licences:

  • Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent recognised qualification) and a current Food Safety Certificate, or willingness to obtain.

  • A dedicated commitment to child safety, student wellbeing, and supporting the broader values of the College.

  • Current Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
