We're on the search for superstar Full Time, Part Time and Casual Kitchen Staff!
Chef de Parties || Commis Chefs || Cooks
Looking for more than just another kitchen job?
The Straddie Hotel is building something special on North Stradbroke Island, and we're looking for passionate hospitality professionals to join our growing kitchen team.
Whether you're an experienced Chef de Partie ready to lead a section, a Commis Chef looking to develop your skills, or a Cook who thrives in a fast-paced kitchen, we'd love to hear from you.
This is not a sponsorship role and we are only seeking candidates who already live on North Stradbroke Island or are genuinely prepared to relocate. Candidates applying from outside Australia will not be considered.
The Straddie Hotel is an iconic Queensland landmark, with the beach view on North Stradbroke Island, overlooking the crystal-clear waters of Cylinder Beach. Following a complete redevelopment, the hotel has relaunched across all areas - featuring a high-volume bistro, multiple bars, upper and lower decks, function spaces, 15 accommodation rooms, gaming, and 3 bottle shops.
Our kitchen delivers high-volume pub and bistro dining, functions, events, and special occasions for locals and visitors alike.
We're looking for people who take pride in their work, care about consistency, and understand that every plate leaving the pass represents the venue.
Depending on your experience level, you may be responsible for:
Running and owning a kitchen section during service
Assisting with food preparation and production
Preparing and presenting dishes to a consistently high standard
Supporting functions and special events
Maintaining food safety and hygiene standards
Assisting with stock control and minimising waste
Working collaboratively as part of a fast-paced kitchen team
What we're looking for
Experience working in a pub, bistro, hotel, resort, or high-volume kitchen environment
Strong work ethic and ability to perform under pressure
Positive attitude and willingness to learn
Reliable, team-focused approach
Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery (preferred for chef roles)
Full Australian working rights
Ability to live on North Stradbroke Island is essential due to limited ferry access and service hours
Most importantly, we're looking for people who want to stay, grow, and become part of the team long-term.
Island life is incredible, but it isn't for everyone.
Before applying, please ensure you understand that North Stradbroke Island requires ferry travel and operates differently to mainland venues.
We are only seeking candidates who:
Already live on the island, or
Have concrete plans to relocate in the near future
These positions are not eligible for visa sponsorship.
We have full-time, part-time and casual opportunities available across the kitchen team.
Rates are paid in accordance with the Hospitality Industry Award (HIGA), with most roles falling between Level 2 and Level 6 classifications, currently ranging from $32.31 to $38.35 per hour (weekday rates), plus penalties.
Full-time salaries typically range from $55,000 to $80,000, depending on the role, experience, qualifications, and what you bring to the team.
If you're a standout candidate with the right attitude, skills, and commitment, we're always open to a conversation.
Full-time and casual opportunities available
Staff accommodation available (subject to availability)
Work directly across the road from Cylinder Beach
Career development opportunities within a growing hospitality group
Staff discounts across Moreton Hospitality venues
Work with experienced chefs in a supportive environment
The opportunity to be part of one of Queensland's most iconic venues
Ready to join our kitchen in paradise?
If you love creating memorable moments for guests and want to be part of a new chapter at The Straddie Hotel, we’d love to hear from you. Submit your resume along with why you believe you’d be a strong fit for this role.
