About the role

We are seeking a talented Commis Chef, Demi Chef, or Chef de Partie to join our dynamic kitchen team at KOMBU QVM in the heart of Melbourne CBD. As a key member of our culinary crew, you will play a vital role in preparing and executing our innovative Japanese-inspired cuisine in a fast-paced, high-energy environment. This full-time position offers the opportunity to learn, grow, and excel in a supportive, collaborative kitchen culture.

What you'll be doing

  1. Assisting with the preparation and presentation of a variety of dishes from our diverse menu

  2. Maintaining high standards of food quality, hygiene, and safety at all times

  3. Adapting recipes and techniques to accommodate special dietary requirements

  4. Collaborating with the senior chef and other kitchen staff to develop new menu items and improve existing ones

  5. Ensuring the kitchen is well-organised and stocked with necessary ingredients and equipment

  6. Continuously learning and honing your culinary skills to deliver an exceptional dining experience for our customers

What we're looking for

  1. Previous experience in a fast-paced, high-quality restaurant or catering environment

  2. A passion for Japanese cuisine and a keen understanding of traditional and contemporary cooking techniques

  3. Strong time management and multitasking abilities to thrive in a dynamic, high-pressure kitchen

  4. Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of food safety and hygiene

  5. A collaborative, team-oriented approach and the ability to work well in a diverse, fast-paced kitchen environment

  6. A recognised culinary qualification or equivalent experience
