About Us

Sunday in Canberra is a well-established dining venue located in Gungahlin, ACT, offering café dining, catering, functions and events. As part of an exciting transition under new management, the venue is expanding and enhancing its food and hospitality operations to better serve its growing customer base.

To support these operational changes and future growth, we are seeking enthusiastic and experienced hospitality professionals to fill the following full-time positions:

  • Cook – Salary: $75,000 to $81,000 per annum

  • Chef – Salary: $80,000 to $85,000 per annum

These positions will play a key role in supporting the business's ongoing expansion, menu development, catering services, and function operations.


Position 1 – Cook

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a variety of meals in accordance with recipes and quality standards.

  • Assist with food preparation, portioning, plating, and presentation.

  • Monitor food quality during preparation and service.

  • Maintain stock levels and assist with ordering supplies.

  • Ensure food is stored, handled, and prepared in accordance with food safety requirements.

  • Assist with catering, takeaway, and function orders.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen work areas.

  • Support senior kitchen staff with daily kitchen operations.

  • Train and assist junior kitchen staff where required.

  • Work efficiently during busy service periods, including weekends and public holidays.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience as a Cook.

  • Certificate III or Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of food preparation and kitchen operations.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of food quality and hygiene.

Salary: $75,000 – $81,000 per annum plus superannuation.


Position 2 – Chef

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan menus in consultation with management and contribute to menu innovation and seasonal offerings.

  • Estimate food and labour costs and assist with kitchen budgeting.

  • Order food supplies and manage inventory requirements.

  • Monitor the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation, cooking, and presentation.

  • Prepare and cook meals while maintaining consistency and quality standards.

  • Discuss food preparation and operational matters with management and kitchen staff.

  • Demonstrate cooking techniques and provide guidance to kitchen staff.

  • Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety requirements.

  • Train, supervise, and support kitchen staff where required.

  • Coordinate food preparation for catering functions and large-scale events.

  • Monitor portion control and minimise food wastage.

  • Store, freeze, and preserve food products in accordance with food safety standards.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of kitchen operations and customer experience.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience as a Chef; or

  • Certificate IV in Kitchen Management, Diploma of Hospitality Management, or equivalent qualification.

  • Experience in menu planning, stock control, and kitchen supervision.

  • Strong understanding of food safety and commercial kitchen operations.

  • Excellent organisational and leadership skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities.

Salary: $80,000 – $85,000 per annum plus superannuation.
