About the Position:

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Chef to join our kitchen team and play a key role in delivering the authentic Indian cuisine and exceptional dining experience that our customers enjoy. In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for overseeing daily kitchen operations, preparing and presenting high-quality dishes, maintaining consistency across our menu, supervising and supporting kitchen staff, managing stock and food preparation processes, and ensuring compliance with all food safety and hygiene requirements.

The successful candidate will contribute to menu planning and continuous improvement initiatives while helping to maintain the high standards of quality, efficiency and customer satisfaction that Tanveer's Curry Hut Boonah is known for. This position is integral to the smooth operation and ongoing success of the restaurant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and develop menus featuring authentic Indian cuisine, including curries, tandoori dishes, vegetarian specialties, rice dishes, breads and seasonal offerings.

  • Prepare, cook and present a wide range of Indian dishes using traditional cooking methods, ensuring consistency in flavour, quality and presentation.

  • Monitor the quality of food at all stages of preparation, cooking and service to maintain high standards.

  • Demonstrate cooking techniques and provide guidance, training and support to kitchen staff on food preparation and presentation.

  • Coordinate daily kitchen operations to ensure efficient workflow, timely food preparation and smooth service during busy trading periods.

  • Order, receive and manage food supplies and ingredients, ensuring appropriate stock levels, quality control and stock rotation procedures are maintained.

  • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation and workplace health and safety requirements in accordance with Australian regulations.

  • Train, supervise and mentor kitchen staff, ensuring adherence to recipes, food quality standards and operational procedures.

  • Assist in managing food costs, portion control and inventory levels to minimise wastage and support business profitability.

  • Work closely with management and front-of-house staff to coordinate service requirements, menu changes and customer dietary needs.

  • Develop new dishes and menu enhancements that reflect authentic Indian flavours while meeting customer preferences and business objectives.

  • Maintain a clean, organised and efficient kitchen environment to support high-quality food production and customer satisfaction.

Requirements:

  • Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.

  • Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Australia.

  • Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery, Hospitality, or Kitchen Management (highly desirable).

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience as a Chef in a commercial restaurant or hospitality environment.

  • Strong knowledge and practical experience in authentic Indian cuisine, including curry preparation, tandoori cooking techniques, rice dishes, breads, vegetarian dishes, and traditional spice blending.

  • Experience preparing and cooking Indian tandoori breads, including naan, roti and other traditional varieties.

  • Sound understanding of food preparation, portion control, quality assurance and presentation standards.

  • Excellent knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and workplace health and safety requirements in accordance with Australian regulations.

  • Proven ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment while maintaining high standards of food quality and consistency.
