Chef Manager | Hobart, Tasmania
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Chef Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our catering and food service operation. This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on hospitality professional who is passionate about delivering exceptional food, strong financial outcomes, and leading high-performing teams.
As Chef Manager, you will oversee kitchen operations, menu planning, food quality, compliance, team leadership, and financial performance while ensuring an outstanding customer experience at all times.
Key Responsibilities:Operational & Service Delivery
- Lead and manage all daily kitchen and food service operations
- Develop and implement balanced, innovative, and client-focused menus
- Ensure consistent food quality, presentation, and portion control standards
- Manage production planning and stock availability across all service periods
- Monitor service delivery to ensure efficiency and customer satisfaction
- Maintain high standards of food safety, storage, labelling, and temperature control
- Ensure safe operation and maintenance of kitchen equipment
- Identify and implement operational improvements to increase efficiency and service quality
- Support front-of-house operations where required to ensure seamless service delivery
Financial & Commercial Management
- Manage operations within approved budgets and financial targets
- Monitor and control food costs, labour costs, and operational expenses
- Oversee purchasing and supplier relationships to ensure quality and value
- Implement stock control procedures to minimise waste and loss
- Maintain accurate ordering, invoicing, and reporting processes
- Contribute to forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning
- Develop cost-saving initiatives while maintaining quality standards
- Align staffing and rostering with operational demand
Leadership, Compliance & Safety
- Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team
- Recruit, induct, train, and coach team members
- Conduct performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback and support
- Foster a positive and collaborative workplace culture
- Ensure compliance with all WHS, food safety, and legislative requirements
- Conduct regular safety checks, audits, and toolbox talks
- Ensure incidents, hazards, and risks are managed appropriately
- Maintain accurate compliance, safety, and training records

- Communicate effectively with staff, clients, and stakeholders
About You
- Proven experience in a Chef Manager, Head Chef, or senior kitchen leadership role
- Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets and labour costs
- Excellent leadership and team development skills
- Strong understanding of food safety and WHS compliance
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards
- Exceptional organisational and communication skills
- Passion for hospitality, food quality, and customer service
