At Bird, we don't do boring. Based in Brunswick East, we serve up high-energy vibes, killer cocktails and the best fried chicken in Melbourne. Our kitchen is fast, loud and focused on quality. We take our food seriously, but we don't take ourselves too seriously.
We’re expanding the crew and looking for a reliable, high-energy casual chef to team up with.
This isn't a job where you watch paint dry. You’ll be jumping straight into the action, owning the larder and fryer sections during high-volume service periods. We need someone who can maintain precision, cleanliness and speed when the printer starts humming.
Key Responsibilities:
Own the Line: Prepare and crush menu items across the fryer and larder sections to our specs (consistency is everything here).
Prepped & Ready: Smash daily prep lists efficiently and monitor stock levels so we’re never caught short during peak service.
Keep it Tight: Maintain a clean, organized and sanitary station throughout service, sticking to strict FIFO and food safety standards.
Team First: Work closely with the kitchen and FOH teams to keep ticket times low and food quality high.
Muck In: Help with opening/closing down, cleaning, and general kitchen duties (including dishwashing when required)—we all pull together.
Kitchen Proven: Previous experience in a fast-paced commercial kitchen (if you’ve run a high-volume fryer section before, you’re top of the list).
Cool Under Pressure: Ability to stay focused, fast and organized when the tickets pile up.
Reliable & Alert: Strong attention to detail, a sharp eye for food safety and a genuinely positive attitude.
Available: Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays—this is hospitality, after all.
Consistent Hours: A solid 12–20 hours per week on a reliable roster.
Proper Pay: Competitive casual hourly rates fully in accordance with the restaurant industry award.
