About the role

We are seeking an experienced and talented Sous Chef to join our team at The Panorama Hotel in the beautiful coastal town of St Helens, Tasmania. As the Sous Chef, you will be reporting directly to our Head Chef and will be responsible for assisting in managing all culinary operations, ensuring the delivery of exceptional dining experiences for our customers. This is a full-time role and will involve working in our well-equipped kitchen facilities.

What you'll be doing

  1. Overseeing the daily operation of the kitchen, including menu planning, food preparation, and quality control

  2. Leading and mentoring a team of skilled chefs and kitchen staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment

  3. Developing and implementing innovative menu items that showcase local and seasonal ingredients

  4. Ensuring strict adherence to health, safety, and food hygiene standards

  5. Managing food costs and inventory to maintain profitability

  6. Collaborating with the front-of-house team to deliver a seamless dining experience

  7. Participating in menu tastings and customer feedback sessions to continually improve the culinary offering

What we're looking for

  1. Extensive experience as a Sous Chef or equivalent role in a high-volume, fast-paced restaurant environment

  2. Minimum 4-5 years of Sous Chef experience in a professional kitchen environment

  3. Exceptional culinary skills and a deep understanding of diverse cooking techniques and flavour profiles

  4. Proven track record of leading and developing a kitchen team to achieve high standards of quality and efficiency

  5. Strong business acumen, with the ability to manage food costs and inventory effectively

  6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with front-of-house staff

  7. A passion for using locally sourced, seasonal ingredients to create exceptional dining experiences

  8. Relevant qualifications in hospitality, culinary arts, or a related field
