Chef De Partie/Commis Chef — Baba's Place, Marrickville (Full Time/Casual)

Who We Are

Baba’s Place is a restaurant, a concept, and a community. We champion suburban cuisine and the “Wog” experience — an open-hearted approach to food, art, and storytelling.

We started in a backyard, ran rogue during lockdowns, and grew into a venue that now celebrates culture with curiosity, compassion, and boldness. We’re driven by values, not trends.

Baba’s Place is seeking an experienced and passionate chef to join our small, focused kitchen team. We are a hatted restaurant in Marrickville built on thoughtful hospitality, serious food, and a deep respect for produce, culture, and craft.

If you genuinely care about cooking, consistency, and being part of a team that takes pride in the details, we’d love to hear from you.

About the Role

We’re looking for someone who brings skill, focus, and care to the kitchen. This is a casual/part-time role, ideal for someone who wants meaningful shifts in a high-quality, thoughtful, high-volume restaurant environment.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Running your section with confidence during busy service

  • Preparing, cooking, and plating dishes to a consistently high standard

  • Working closely with the Head Chef and senior kitchen team

  • Maintaining strong mise en place, cleanliness, and organisation

  • Supporting prep, service, and pack-down across the kitchen

  • Contributing to a positive, respectful, and hard-working team culture

  • Helping deliver food that reflects the values and story of Baba’s Place

What We’re Looking For

  • Minimum two years’ experience as a Chef de Partie/Commis or similar role

  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-quality restaurant environment

  • Strong knife skills and sound cooking fundamentals

  • Confident running a section during busy service

  • Calm under pressure, organised, and consistent

  • A genuine respect for produce, technique, and cleanliness

  • A team player with a strong work ethic and good communication

  • Someone who takes pride in their craft and wants to keep growing

What We Offer

  • A fun and thoughtful workplace with a strong culture of respect

  • Weekly cash tips — shared across floor, bar, and kitchen

  • The opportunity to contribute to a dynamic, evolving food program

  • Career development opportunities — leadership pathways, new concepts, and future venues

  • Collaborative team culture — we support and challenge each other

  • Staff perks — discounted dining

  • A venue that genuinely respects your growth, ideas, and individuality
