Chef

Melkaan Pty Ltd T/A Wombat Cafe is seeking an experienced and motivated Chef to join our kitchen team in Dromana. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing, and cooking a variety of high-quality meals while maintaining food safety and quality standards in a busy environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan menus and estimate food and labour costs in consultation with management.

• Prepare, season, and cook a variety of dishes in accordance with recipes and quality standards.

• Monitor the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation, cooking, and presentation.

• Inspect food supplies and ingredients to ensure quality and freshness.

• Order and maintain stock levels of food supplies and kitchen consumables.

• Demonstrate cooking techniques and advise kitchen staff on food preparation and cooking procedures.

• Assist in the development of menus, daily specials, seasonal specials, and new dishes.

• Coordinate food preparation and service activities to ensure efficient kitchen operations.

• Explain and enforce food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety regulations.

• Monitor portion control, minimise food wastage, and maintain cost-effective kitchen operations.

• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen equipment, workstations, and storage areas.

• Select, train, and supervise kitchen staff where required.

• Work collaboratively with front-of-house staff to address dietary requirements and special orders.

Essential Requirements

• Relevant qualification equivalent to Diploma of Hospitality Management.

• At least 2 years of relevant experience as a Chef in a fast paced commercial kitchen.

• Strong knowledge of food preparation, food safety, and kitchen operations.

• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

• Excellent organisational and time management skills.

• Have a passion for great food and presentation.
