Melkaan Pty Ltd T/A Wombat Cafe is seeking an experienced and motivated Chef to join our kitchen team in Dromana. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing, and cooking a variety of high-quality meals while maintaining food safety and quality standards in a busy environment.
Key Responsibilities
Plan menus and estimate food and labour costs in consultation with management.
Prepare, season, and cook a variety of dishes in accordance with recipes and quality standards.
Monitor the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation, cooking, and presentation.
Inspect food supplies and ingredients to ensure quality and freshness.
Order and maintain stock levels of food supplies and kitchen consumables.
Demonstrate cooking techniques and advise kitchen staff on food preparation and cooking procedures.
Assist in the development of menus, daily specials, seasonal specials, and new dishes.
Coordinate food preparation and service activities to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
Explain and enforce food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety regulations.
Monitor portion control, minimise food wastage, and maintain cost-effective kitchen operations.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen equipment, workstations, and storage areas.
Select, train, and supervise kitchen staff where required.
Work collaboratively with front-of-house staff to address dietary requirements and special orders.
Essential Requirements
Relevant qualification equivalent to Diploma of Hospitality Management.
At least 2 years of relevant experience as a Chef in a fast paced commercial kitchen.
Strong knowledge of food preparation, food safety, and kitchen operations.
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent organisational and time management skills.
Have a passion for great food and presentation.
