Head Chef

Full time during term time only (with potential additional casual event engagement)

Hours to be worked between 7:30am – 5:30pm

Salary (pro rata) commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience

We are a close-knit, values-driven independent school dedicated to nurturing confident, compassionate young women. Our boarding house is the heart of our community - a home away from home for students from across Australia and beyond. We believe that food is more than just fuel; it’s a daily opportunity to bring people together, create comfort, and support wellbeing.

The Impact You'll Make

As our Head Chef, you’ll be more than the leader of the kitchen - you’ll be a key contributor to the warmth and care that defines our boarding experience. Working closely with our Boarding House and Cafeteria Managers, you’ll collaboratively design and deliver nutritious, delicious, and varied menus that cater to diverse tastes, dietary needs, and cultural backgrounds. Your work will directly influence the health, happiness, and sense of belonging of our students.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the day-to-day culinary operations of the boarding kitchen, ensuring meals are fresh, balanced, and beautifully presented.

  • Collaborate with the Boarding House and Cafeteria Managers to plan seasonal menus that reflect student feedback and nutritional guidelines.

  • Manage, in consultation with the Cafeteria Manager, ordering, stock control, and supplier relationships to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.

  • Oversee and mentor kitchen staff, fostering a positive, respectful, and efficient team culture.

  • Maintain the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and compliance with NSW regulations.

  • Create special menus for school events, celebrations, and cultural occasions.

What You'll Bring

  • Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef, ideally in a school, boarding, or high-volume catering environment.

  • A passion for creating wholesome, appealing meals for young people.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with non-kitchen staff.

  • Knowledge of dietary requirements, including allergies, intolerances, and cultural considerations.

  • A leadership style that inspires, supports, and develops your team.

  • Relevant qualifications in Commercial Cookery and current Food Safety Supervisor certification.

Why You'll Love It Here

  • Be part of a warm, inclusive school community where your work has a direct, positive impact on young lives.

  • Enjoy a stable, family-friendly roster with minimal late nights.

  • Access to professional development opportunities and support for ongoing training.

  • Work in a well-equipped kitchen with the freedom to bring creativity to your menus.

  • Staff wellbeing initiatives, free on-site parking, and meals provided during shifts.
