Due to business growth and increasing demand, we are looking for a skilled and dedicated Cook to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis.
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Cook to join our kitchen team. The role is hands-on and focused on food preparation and cooking in accordance with our established recipes and standards. The Cook will support daily kitchen operations and ensure consistency, quality, and food safety at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, season, and cook a wide variety of authentic Nepalese and Indian dishes including curries, tandoori specials, rice dishes, breads (naan, roti, paratha), and accompaniments in line with our established recipes and menu requirements
Ensure consistency in flavour, quality, portion control, presentation, and cooking standards across all menu items
Examine foodstuffs for freshness and quality prior to preparation, ensuring only the best ingredients are used
Monitor and regulate cooking equipment including ovens, grills, stovetops, and tandoors to maintain correct temperatures
Portion and plate food attractively, adding gravies, sauces, chutneys, and garnishes to restaurant standards
Store food in temperature-controlled facilities in full compliance with food safety regulations and HACCP principles
Prepare meals to accommodate special dietary requirements including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and allergen-sensitive requests
Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic kitchen in full compliance with Australian food safety standards and WHS regulations
Assist with stock control, rotation, proper storage, and minimising waste
Assist with menu planning and estimation of food requirements in consultation with the Head Chef
Train and supervise kitchen assistants and apprentices as required
Collaborate effectively with the kitchen team to ensure smooth, efficient service during busy periods
Skills and Experience Required
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent) and at least 1 years relevant experience, or 3 years relevant experience where no formal qualification is held.
- Demonstrated experience preparing Nepalese and/or Indian cuisine in a commercial dining or catering environment (highly desirable)
- Sound knowledge of Indian and Nepalese cooking techniques, spices, and ingredients
- Understanding of Australian food safety standards, hygiene practices, and relevant legislation
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required
