Chef – Canberra Southern Cross Club

The Canberra Southern Cross Club is currently seeking a dynamic and suitably qualified chef to join our team. If you possess the right skills, experience, and a genuine love for creating exceptional food experiences, we want to hear from you!

Main responsibilities

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and hygiene in all kitchen areas.
  • Prepare and cook a wide variety of dishes or supervise others where preparation is required.
  • Support the Executive Chef, Sous Chef, and broader kitchen team to ensure food preparation is technically correct, cost-effective, and in line with budgets.
  • Assess food products to consistently meet CSCC quality standards.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen.
  • Experience in clubs or hotels preferred.
  • Strong team player with leadership and coaching abilities.
  • Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining consistency and quality

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook a variety of dishes according to established recipes and standards
  • Assist in menu planning and development, ensuring seasonal and local ingredients are utilised
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen and work areas
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene regulations
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure efficient service during busy periods
  • Monitor stock levels and assist with inventory management
  • Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance culinary skills

Qualifications:

  • A passion for cooking and a desire to learn and grow in the culinary field
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends
