ButtrMe is a premium café and artisan bakery in South Melbourne, specialising in handcrafted French pastries, specialty coffee and fresh grab-and-go food. Who are we looking for
Pastry Chef x 2
You are two skilled and passionate Pastry Chefs with experience producing high-quality pastries, viennoiserie and baked goods. You take pride in consistency, craftsmanship and presentation, while maintaining excellent food safety and hygiene standards. You are organised, reliable and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where quality is paramount.
Key responsibilities as a Pastry Chef
planning pastry menus and seasonal dessert offerings, estimating ingredient and labour costs, and ordering pastry ingredients and supplies
monitoring the quality of pastries, desserts, cakes, breads, and baked goods at all stages of preparation, finishing, and presentation
discussing pastry production requirements and dessert menu development with Managers, kitchen staff, and front-of-house teams
demonstrating pastry techniques and advising staff on baking, decorating, chocolate work, sugar work, and dessert preparation procedures
preparing, baking, decorating, and presenting a wide range of pastries, desserts, cakes, breads, and specialty baked goods
explaining and enforcing food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations within the pastry kitchen
selecting, training, and supervising pastry staff and apprentices in pastry production techniques and kitchen procedures
managing the storage, freezing, preservation, and rotation of pastry products and ingredients to maintain quality and minimise waste
Qualifications
Certificate IV in Patisserie is highly desirable
good communication and time management skills
Retail Bakery Manager
You are an experienced hospitality or retail professional with strong leadership and customer service skills. You are confident managing day-to-day operations, leading a team, driving sales and ensuring an exceptional customer experience. You are highly organised, hands-on and motivated by the opportunity to help build and grow a premium bakery and café business from the ground up.
Key duties for this position
determining the product mix of croissants, pastries, breads, cakes, and café offerings, maintaining appropriate stock levels, and ensuring high customer service standards
formulating and implementing purchasing, merchandising, and marketing strategies, and setting prices for bakery and café products
promoting and advertising the café's baked goods, specialty pastries, seasonal products, and food and beverage offerings through in-store and digital channels
overseeing the sale of bakery products and café items, assisting customers with product selection, and providing information on ingredients, flavours, and specialty offerings
maintaining records of inventory levels, ingredient usage, sales performance, and financial transactions to support efficient business operations
preparing and monitoring budgets, controlling costs, and analysing sales data to maximise profitability and minimise waste
recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising bakery, café, and customer service staff to ensure efficient daily operations
ensuring compliance with food safety, workplace health and safety, and hygiene regulations, and maintaining a clean and safe retail and production environment
Qualifications
Qualification in business management is highly desirable
good communication and time management skills
2 years experience as a retail manager
