Workfast is seeking an experienced Maintenance Coordinator to lead our client's busy galvanising plant maintenance team in Campbellfield, VIC.

In this pivotal role, you will lead the maintenance team to maximize the life of site facilities and plant assets while driving plant reliability and throughput. You will be responsible for effective planning and scheduling, developing predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance plans, and implementing crucial capital improvement works as part of the wider Site Management team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership & Coordination: Proactively lead a maintenance team of typically 5 direct reports, managing up to 20 personnel including contractors, depending on project needs. Coordinate opportunity maintenance, unplanned activities, and breakdowns.  
  • Safety & Compliance: Actively participate in safety initiatives, incident investigations, risk assessments, and safety audits. Ensure strict compliance with all workplace high-risk or maintenance work permits for staff and contractors.  
  • Planning & Scheduling: Develop weekly (look ahead) MEX maintenance schedules targeting an 80% preventative and 20% reactive work ratio. Ensure all equipment and plant items are kept up-to-date within the MEX PM Work management process.  
  • Continuous Improvement & Reliability: Develop and implement maintenance improvement plans to enhance reliability. Actively participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for equipment failures exceeding 90 minutes.  
  • Budget & Spares Management: Maintain R&M costs to budget, contributing to the development of site operating and capital budgets. Conduct criticality studies (FMEA analysis) to ensure an adequate critical spares list is maintained.  
  • Workshop Oversight: Maintain high housekeeping standards and controls in both the workshop and spare parts holding areas, ensuring all inventory is organised and labelled.  
Qualifications, Experience & Competencies
  • Education: Tertiary qualification in an Engineering discipline OR equivalent experience and knowledge in maintenance engineering. 
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience, including previous leadership experience in a Maintenance Department. 
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong practical knowledge of PM technologies (such as Vibration Analysis, Oil Analysis, Infra-Red, Ultra-Sound, and Motor Circuit Evaluation) and a solid working knowledge of Maintenance Management systems (MEX preferred). 
  • Skills: Hands-on maintenance approach, excellent fault-finding/RCA capabilities, and advanced computer skills.
  • Leadership & Change: Proven experience leading people to achieve company targets and previous experience navigating "Change Management". 
  • Communication: Fluent verbal and written English. 
  • Desirable: Lean Manufacturing experience.
