🔧 About the Role

As an Underground Coal Electrician at Deftec, you will be critical in maintaining and servicing electrical equipment and systems across our underground coal mining operations throughout the Bowen Basin. This full‑time role ensures the safe, compliant and efficient performance of the mine’s electrical infrastructure.

We have positions available in the following departments:

Operational Areas / Role Streams

  • Development Bullgang

  • Development Production

  • Outbye Maintenance

  • Longwall Production

  • Conveyor Installations

  • Engineering Projects

This position is available for an immediate start on a 7/7 day‑shift‑only roster (Excluding Production Roles).


Essential Criteria

  • Minimum 12 months underground coal mining experience
    (Please do not apply without UG coal experience)

  • QLD Electrical Fitter/Mechanic Licence
    (Interstate equivalent accepted for an interim period)

  • EEHA (Electrical Equipment in Hazardous Areas) competencies

  • Australian Driver’s Licence

  • Current LVR/CPR

  • Current Standard 11 Underground Induction

  • Current Queensland Coal Board Medical


🔩 What You’ll Be Doing

  • Carrying out scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on a variety of underground electrical equipment
    (Switchgear, motors, lighting, comms — Wi‑Fi installation/maintenance experience advantageous)

  • Diagnosing and repairing electrical faults to minimise downtime

  • Complying with all site safety procedures, standards and statutory requirements

  • Maintaining detailed records, job reports and documentation

  • Providing technical support to crews and mentoring where required

  • Participating in improvement initiatives to boost reliability and performance


🧩 What We’re Looking For

  • Valid Electrical Trade Certificate or equivalent

  • 12+ months working as an Electrician in an underground coal environment

  • Strong diagnostic and fault‑finding skills

  • Solid understanding of mining electrical safety standards & regulations

  • Excellent communication, teamwork and problem‑solving ability

  • Strong commitment to safety and compliance
