About the Role

Cougar Drilling is seeking a motivated and reliable Spray Painter / Trade Assistant to join our Drilling Workshop team based in Thornton. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with workshop experience who enjoys a varied position combining spray painting duties with general trade assistant support. You will play an important role in maintaining high-quality workshop output by preparing, painting, assisting tradespeople, and ensuring the workshop remains safe, organised and efficient.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare surfaces for painting, including cleaning, sanding, masking and general preparation work

  • Mix and apply paint and protective coatings using spray painting equipment

  • Inspect completed work for quality and complete touch-ups where required

  • Maintain spray-painting tools, equipment and work areas

  • Safely handle, store and dispose of paints, chemicals and workshop materials

  • Assist tradespeople with general workshop tasks including welding support, fitting, assembly and equipment preparation

  • Follow safety procedures, quality standards and company policies at all times

What We're Looking For

  • Relevant trade qualification or certification in spray painting

  • Forklift ticket

  • Previous experience in spray painting and/or as a Trade Assistant in a workshop environment

  • Knowledge of spray-painting techniques, tools and workshop equipment

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
