About the Role

Step into a hands-on role where no two days are the same. As a Crew Arborist within our Bayside-Dandenong region based out of the South East Regional Office, you’ll be at the heart of maintaining and protecting Melbourne’s waterways and green spaces—climbing trees, operating machinery, and delivering essential environmental work that keeps our communities thriving.

From tree canopy work to ground-based operations, you’ll use your skills across a variety of exciting tasks, all while working in a supportive team that values safety, collaboration, and continuous learning.

  • Performing ground based duties, tree climbing, and occasional elevated work platform  (EWP)
  • Successful delivery of tree and vegetation management across a geographical area of Melbourne Water’s Waterways and Catchment Operations Delivery.
  • Accountable for achieving specified quality, timeliness, and compliance requirements.
  • Operation of heavy plant and equipment (Truck driving, feeding chipper, and operating articulated loader)
  • Operation of a range of hand and power tools (chainsaws etc.)
  • Undertake further training to enhance job capabilities.

About you:

  • Qualification in Arboriculture (minimum Cert 3)
  • Demonstrated experience performing ground, tree climbing, and Elevated Work Platform (EWP) duties.
  • Qualifications/tickets such as Construction induction (White Card), High Risk Work Licence (EWP) Chainsaw, Front end loader highly regarded
  • Ability to take responsibility for own role in ensuring the safety of all team members and other personnel on site.
  • Problem solving skills, including the ability to deliver the appropriate outcomes
  • Sound interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of people both within Melbourne Water, external organisations and with the public
  • Ability to work and contribute to a team environment to improve processes, respond to various demands and manage multiple activities simultaneously
  • Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations

This role would suit a hands-on, safety-focused arborist who enjoys working outdoors, thrives in a team environment, and is confident using their technical skills to problem solve and deliver high-quality work in dynamic and sometimes high-pressure situations.

All employees must possess a license to perform any duty which is required to be held under Australian legislation. You will also need to hold a MR License and undergo a medical and police check.
