Motor Mechanics undertake electronic diagnostics as well as service, repair, and overhaul the mechanical parts of motor vehicles including:
Engines
Transmissions (clutch, gearbox and differential)
Suspension systems
Steering systems
Brake systems
Wheels and tyres
Electrical and fuel management systems
The role requires a strong commitment to quality workmanship, workplace safety, customer satisfaction, and teamwork.
The Motor Mechanic is responsible for:
Delivering high-quality mechanical repairs and servicing.
Providing exceptional customer service.
Maintaining workshop standards and presentation.
Caring for workshop tools, equipment, and diagnostic systems.
Supporting and supervising apprentices where required.
Following company policies and procedures.
Contributing positively to the workshop team environment.
Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently, and professionally.
To perform this role, applicants must possess:
AQF Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or equivalent qualification).
Current Australian Driver's License.
Relevant industry experience as a qualified Motor Mechanic or Automotive Technician.
The successful candidate may perform the following tasks:
Discuss vehicle concerns with customers and identify faults.
Listen to engines, operate diagnostic equipment, and test-drive vehicles to determine faults.
Identify problems, determine cause-and-effect relationships, and examine information from various sources to determine the most effective repair solution.
Complete vehicle details on repair orders, including kilometers, registration numbers, VINs, and engine numbers.
Repair or replace worn and faulty parts by removing assemblies such as engines, transmissions, differentials, and steering components.
Dismantle, inspect, and assess components using manufacturer specifications and workshop manuals.
Reassemble, test, clean, and adjust repaired or replaced parts and assemblies.
Use specialized instruments and testing equipment to ensure components operate correctly before refitting.
Perform preventative maintenance including:
Fluid inspections
Brake inspections
Steering and suspension inspections
Ignition system checks
Cooling system checks
Electrical system inspections
Tune engines using electronic diagnostic equipment and perform adjustments to fuel injection and engine management systems.
Diagnose, repair, and replace engine management and fuel injection components.
Carry out minor body and trim repairs where required.
Use oxy, electric, and MIG welding equipment safely and effectively.
Use electronic testing equipment to locate and rectify faults within:
Lighting systems
Instrumentation systems
Ignition systems
Electronic fuel injection systems
Emission control systems
Conduct roadworthy inspections where licensed and identify work required to achieve compliance.
Inspect tyres, wheels, rims, and associated components.
Recommend suitable tyre and wheel solutions for customers.
Fit, repair, rotate, and replace tyres.
Balance wheels and perform wheel alignments.
Check steering and suspension systems.
Conduct post-alignment testing and inspections.
Test-drive vehicles before and after repairs when required.
Assist customers with tyre recommendations and pricing.
Process tyre sales and related transactions.
Receive, inspect, and store incoming tyres and parts.
