If you’re the mechanic everyone else comes to when they’re stuck, keep reading.

Mariner Engineering is one of Melbourne’s leading marine diesel specialists.

As authorised Volvo Penta and Yanmar dealers, and specialists in Twin Disc and ZF marine transmissions, we work on everything from routine servicing to major engine repowers, transmission rebuilds, insurance repairs and complex fault-finding projects.

Our customers include recreational boat owners, commercial operators and some of Melbourne’s most prestigious motor yachts. When others can’t solve a problem, we’re often the team they call.

We’re growing and looking for an experienced Lead Marine Diesel Mechanic to become a key part of our leadership team.

This is a senior position for someone who takes pride in their trade, enjoys solving complex technical problems, and wants to help shape the future of a respected and growing business.

The Role

You’ll work closely with our Service Manager and Managing Director to provide technical leadership across the workshop and field service operations.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll continue doing what you do best while helping develop the next generation of technicians.

Responsibilities include:

  • Diagnosing, servicing and repairing marine diesel engines and associated systems

  • Leading complex fault-finding and technical troubleshooting

  • Rebuilding and repairing marine transmissions, gearboxes and driveline systems

  • Supporting major projects including engine repowers and vessel upgrades

  • Mentoring mechanics and apprentices

  • Assisting with job planning, technical assessments and quoting

  • Maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety and customer service

  • Providing both workshop-based and mobile field service support

About You

You’ll likely have:

  • Extensive experience working on diesel engines and mechanical systems

  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding ability

  • Experience leading, mentoring or supervising technicians

  • The ability to make sound decisions and work independently

  • A trade qualification and current driver’s licence

  • High personal standards and pride in your workmanship

Marine experience is highly regarded.

However, we’re also interested in speaking with exceptional technicians from heavy diesel, transport, mining, power generation, industrial diesel, agricultural equipment and related industries.

What’s On Offer?

  • $60–$70 per hour + superannuation

  • Company service vehicle

  • Factory training and professional development

  • Tool allowance

  • Monday to Friday, no weekends

  • Monthly RDO

  • Modern workshop and equipment

  • Supportive management team

  • Long-term career progression opportunities

For the right person, we’re prepared to pay well and invest heavily in your success.
