About the role

Onsite Diesel Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Port Hedland, WA. This is a full-time position offering the opportunity to work with heavy-duty diesel vehicles and equipment in a dynamic, fast-paced automotive environment. You will be responsible for diagnosing, maintaining and repairing complex diesel engines and related systems, contributing to the reliability and performance of vehicles essential to our operations. This role is based on-site at our Port Hedland facility, where you will work as part of a skilled technical team.

Key responsibilities

  1. Diagnose and repair heavy diesel engines, transmissions and related mechanical systems

  2. Perform routine maintenance, servicing and inspections on diesel-powered vehicles and equipment

  3. Conduct troubleshooting to identify mechanical faults and implement effective solutions

  4. Rebuild and recondition engine components and mechanical assemblies

  5. Use diagnostic equipment and testing tools to assess vehicle performance and identify defects

  6. Maintain accurate records of work completed, parts used and service histories

  7. Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety standards and industry regulations

  8. Maintain a clean and safe workshop environment


What we're looking for

  1. A recognised qualification in diesel mechanics or heavy vehicle mechanical engineering

  2. Minimum of 3-5 years' experience working as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic in a commercial or industrial setting

  3. Comprehensive knowledge of diesel engine systems, fuel injection, hydraulics and transmission systems

  4. Proficiency in using mechanical diagnostic and testing equipment

  5. Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail

  6. Excellent time management and the ability to work efficiently within deadlines

  7. Valid driver's licence and willingness to undertake a driving assessment if required

  8. Current or willingness to obtain relevant safety certifications (e.g. forklift operation, confined space entry)

  9. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

  10. Experience with truck and earthmoving equipment maintenance is highly desirable

  11. Knowledge of hydraulic systems and general welding capabilities are advantageous
