About the role

Walkers Plant Maintenance is seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Fitters to join our team in Perth, WA. This is a full-time position offering the opportunity to work on specialised diesel plant and equipment maintenance within the mining, resources and energy sector. As a Heavy Diesel Fitter, you will play a critical role in ensuring our mining and heavy equipment remains operational and performing at optimal efficiency. Your expertise will be essential to our operations and contribute directly to the success of our clients' projects.

What you'll be doing

  1. Inspecting, diagnosing and maintaining heavy diesel engines and associated plant equipment

  2. Performing planned and preventative maintenance on mining and resource extraction machinery

  3. Disassembling and reassembling diesel engines, fuel systems and hydraulic components

  4. Identifying mechanical faults and defects, and implementing effective repair solutions

  5. Testing and commissioning equipment following maintenance or repair work

  6. Maintaining detailed maintenance records and documentation

  7. Adhering to health and safety regulations and industry best practices

  8. Collaborating with other maintenance technicians and site teams

  9. Troubleshooting complex mechanical issues and providing technical support


What we're looking for

  1. Trade qualification as a Diesel Fitter, Heavy Diesel Mechanic or equivalent engineering discipline

  2. Proven experience working on heavy diesel engines and plant equipment in the mining or resources sector

  3. Minimum 3-4 years of hands-on experience with heavy diesel engines and equipment maintenance

  4. Demonstrated proficiency in using diagnostic tools and specialised equipment

  5. Strong understanding of hydraulic systems, fuel systems and mechanical components

  6. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals and specifications

  7. Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to sites as required

  8. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  9. Strong communication abilities and teamwork mentality

  10. Current First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it

  11. Working knowledge of safety management systems and site protocols

  12. Australian citizenship required for this position
