POSITION SUMMARY
The Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Leading Hand is responsible for leading a team of technicians to ensure the safe, efficient, and high-quality maintenance and repair of heavy vehicles and trailers. This role provides hands-on technical support while supervising daily workshop operations, ensuring compliance with safety standards and supporting team performance.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Supervision
-
Lead, support, and supervise a team of mechanics.
-
Allocate daily tasks and monitor workflow to meet operational deadlines.
-
Provide on-the-job training, coaching and mentoring to team members.
-
Promote a positive team culture focused on safety, quality and accountability.
Maintenance & Repairs
-
Perform and oversee servicing, diagnostics and repairs on heavy vehicles and trailers.
-
Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in line with manufacturer and company requirements.

Troubleshoot complex mechanical issues and provide technical guidance.
Safety & Compliance
-
Ensure adherence to WHS policies and procedures at all times.

Conduct regular safety checks and toolbox talks.

Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment.

Ensure compliance with relevant Australian standards and regulations.
Quality & Continuous Improvement
-
Monitor quality of work and implement improvements where required.

Support process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce downtime.

Assist in implementing company policies and procedures.
Administration & Reporting
-
Complete and review job cards, service records and maintenance documentation.

Report on workshop performance, issues and resource requirements.

Liaise with the Workshop Supervisor regarding workflow and priorities.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
-
Trade qualification in Vehicle Body Building, Fabrication, or Heavy Vehicle Mechanics (essential)
