Mechanical Fitter - Perth Metro (Bassendean)
  • Rates (Days/Afternoons): $57.36 / $68.83
  • 6-month contract with scope to go permanent
Work for a Tier One Industry Leader

We are seeking experienced Mechanical Fitters to join a leading Tier One engineering and maintenance organisation, operating out of a modern Bassendean workshop. This is a fantastic opportunity to secure a role with a highly respected name in the rail and heavy maintenance sector, offering long-term stability and career growth.


Shifts Available
  • Dayshift: Monday to Friday, 6:00 am - 2:30 pm
  • Afternoon Shift: Monday to Thursday, 1:30 pm - 10:30 pm & Friday, 1:30 pm - 7:30 pm

About the Role

Working within a specialised heavy maintenance environment, you will be responsible for the overhaul, inspection, and assembly of locomotive and heavy mobile equipment components, including:
  • Disassembly, inspection, and requalification of:
    • Wheel motors
    • Alternators
    • Traction motors
    • Cartridges
    • Blowers & radiator fans
  • Precision measurement and inspection of journals and bores
  • Requalification of bearings and pinions
  • Assembly of key HME components, including:
    • Component preparation and installation
    • Bearing installation
    • Ongoing quality assurance checks
  • Utilising digital systems (iPad) to track job progress
  • Maintaining a strong safety-first culture in a high-performing team
Full training and upskilling will be provided in this specialised environment.

About You
You are a skilled and motivated tradesperson with:
  • A Mechanical Trade Qualification (Mechanical Fitter, Mechanical Machine Repair or equivalent)
  • Experience in overhaul of:
    • AC/DC traction motors
    • Alternators and/or rotating electrical equipment
  • Solid mechanical and electrical knowledge
  • Experience working with GE or EMD equipment (highly regarded)
  • Strong attention to detail and precision measuring skills
  • Good communication skills and team mindset
  • A willingness to learn and develop within a Tier One environment
