Join an established specialist manufacturer of high-performance knife gate valves supplying into the mining industry. Our client is a supportive, innovative, and approachable family business based in Melbourne's north, seeking a skilled Fitter & Turner to join their production team.


About this opportunity:

  • Permanent, full-time position with a stable, Australian-owned specialist manufacturer

  • $85,000 - $90,000 per annum + superannuation

  • Day shift: 6:00am - 2:30pm

  • Located in Thomastown VIC

  • Structured mentorship: working alongside the senior Fitter & Turner with clear progression to senior role within 12 months

  • Hands-on role with genuine career advancement

  • Formal training provided in forklift driving and MIG welding

What you'll be doing:

  • Assembling and testing knife gate, check, plug, and slide gate valves (approximately 80% of the role)

  • Preparing and finishing metal gate components using hand tools, grinders, and sanders

  • Carrying out milling and lathe work where experience allows (approximately 5–10% of the role)

  • Spray painting valve components to specification

  • Forklift driving for material and component handling

  • MIG welding (training provided for those willing to develop this skill)

  • Completing assembly and quality documentation

  • Working safely in compliance with site WHS requirements

  • Contributing to a collaborative, innovative production environment

To be considered for this role:

Minimum requirements:

  • Full Australian work rights

  • A mechanical mindset — essential

  • Fitting and turning or boilermaker experience is ideal; or a solid background in machining/engineering

  • Persistence and attention to detail — understanding that quality valve assembly takes time and care

  • Ability to work well in a team, communicate clearly, and be friendly and prompt

  • Willingness to learn spray painting, forklift driving, and MIG welding
