Freightquip is a leading supplier of freight handling equipment throughout Australia and New Zealand. We represent several global equipment manufacturers that operate in the airport, rail and port industries. 

About the Role

We are seeking a capable and self-sufficient Mobile Service Technician to support the maintenance and reliability of aviation ground support equipment.

This is a hands-on, field-based role combining electrical and mechanical work across a diverse range of equipment including tugs, loaders, and specialised freight-handling machinery. You will work closely with aviation clients and government departments, ensuring critical equipment remains operational in day-to-day airport environments.

This role suits a technician who enjoys variety, takes ownership of their work, and is comfortable operating independently in a customer-facing environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems

  • Perform scheduled servicing, inspections, and breakdown repairs on aviation ground support equipment

  • Commission and test new or upgraded equipment

  • Complete OEM service bulletins, upgrades, and warranty work

  • Support system upgrades including PLC, HMI, CanBus, and electric drive systems

  • Maintain accurate service records and liaise with clients on technical matters

  • Travel as required to support national service activities


Skills & Experience

  • Trade qualification in Mechanical or Electrical discipline

  • Experience with heavy vehicles, mobile equipment, or aviation ground support equipment (preferred)

  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving capability

  • Ability to interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics

  • Experience with PLCs, CanBus, or electric drive systems (highly regarded)

  • Ability to work independently with a proactive, customer-focused approach


Requirements

  • Current Driver’s Licence

  • Willingness to undertake drug and alcohol testing as required

  • Flexibility to travel nationally for service assignments
