Trade Assistant / Mechanic – Upskill into Hydraulic Hose Technician

📍 Cockburn Central, WA | Full-time | Immediate Start | Training Available

Total Connections is a well-established Australian company specialising in mobile servicing and replacement of hydraulic and industrial hoses, fittings and components.

With our head office in Perth and branches in Port Hedland and Kalgoorlie, we support mining, construction, transport and industrial clients across Western Australia.

Due to continued growth, we are looking for a Trade Assistant, Mechanic, Mechanical Fitter, Diesel Fitter or mechanically minded person who is keen to upskill into a Hydraulic Hose Technician / Mobile Service Technician role based out of our Cockburn Central branch.

Hydraulic experience is highly regarded, but not essential. If you have strong mechanical aptitude, a good attitude and the willingness to learn, training and development will be provided.

🧾 About the Role

This is a hands-on, field-based role supporting mining, construction and industrial clients across Perth and surrounding areas. There is opportunity to travel away for work.

You will be involved in hydraulic hose replacement, hose assembly, fault finding, basic repairs, mobile service work and general site support. The role suits someone who is practical, mechanically minded, safety focused and comfortable working in field environments.

Day to day, your responsibilities may include:

• Attending onsite breakdowns and completing hydraulic hose replacements

• Assembling, cutting, crimping and testing hydraulic hose assemblies

• Identifying hydraulic hoses, fittings, adaptors and components

• Installing hydraulic hoses and supporting new hydraulic system installations on plant and equipment

• Assisting with hydraulic fault finding, troubleshooting and minor repairs

• Supporting servicing and maintenance of fire suppression systems where required

• Carrying out basic mechanical fitting and trade assistant duties

• Working on mobile plant, fixed plant, drilling equipment, transport equipment and industrial machinery

• Using mobile job systems for documentation, photos, service reports and job completion details

• Maintaining a clean, safe and well-stocked service vehicle

• Liaising professionally with customers, supervisors and site contacts

• Following site safety requirements, SWMS, JHAs and company procedures

👤 What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone reliable, practical and switched on, with the ability to work safely and independently in field and site environments.

Required

• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability

• Previous experience as a Trade Assistant, Mechanic, Mechanical Fitter, Diesel Fitter, Service Technician or similar

• Willingness to learn hydraulic hose, fittings and fluid power systems

• Good communication skills and a professional approach with customers

• Ability to work safely and follow site procedures

• Ability to work independently and manage jobs in the field

• HR or MR driver’s licence

• Construction White Card

• Full Australian working rights

Desirable

• Experience with hydraulic hoses, fittings, adaptors or fluid power systems

• Experience working on mobile plant, drilling rigs, trucks, trailers, mining equipment or industrial machinery

• Exposure to mining, civil, transport, construction, agriculture or industrial maintenance environments

• Forklift licence

• Fire suppression system experience

• Working at Heights, Confined Space or EWP tickets

• Mine site inductions or previous site access experience

• Trade qualification in mechanical fitting, diesel fitting or similar
