Move the things that can't be moved any other way

Sarens is the global leader in heavy lifting and engineered transport. When a load is too big, too heavy, or too awkward for anything else, we're the ones who shift it. Power station components, bridge sections, mining and resource modules, offshore structures: if it needs to go from A to B in one piece, it travels on our gear.

A big part of how we do that is the SPMT (Self-Propelled Modular Transporter). These are multi-axle, computer-steered, hydraulically driven platforms that carry loads measured in the hundreds of tonnes. They only do that job when they're maintained properly, and that's where you come in.

The role

Based out of our Hendra workshop with travel to project sites across Australia, you'll keep our SPMT fleet ready to work and running safely. Day to day that looks like:

  • Servicing, maintaining, and repairing SPMT units and supporting equipment, including mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical/electronic systems.

  • Diagnosing faults and getting gear back into service without cutting corners on safety.

  • Preparing and commissioning equipment ahead of project mobilisation.

  • Supporting operations on site during transport jobs, often as part of a small, tight crew.

  • Keeping accurate maintenance records and flagging issues early.

  • Working to Sarens safety standards and the relevant WHS obligations, every shift.

This is hands-on work. Some of it is in the workshop, plenty of it is out on the road and on site, and no two projects are the same.

What you'll need

This is a trade-qualified role. To be considered you'll have:

  • A recognised mechanical trade qualification (Heavy Diesel Fitter, Mobile Plant Mechanic, Heavy Vehicle, or equivalent).

  • Solid hands-on experience with hydraulic systems and heavy plant or transport equipment.

  • A current driver's licence (HR/HC and SPMT or heavy haulage experience are a real plus).

  • The willingness and flexibility to travel to sites nationally, including periods away from home.

  • A genuine commitment to working safely and looking out for the people around you.

Direct SPMT experience is great if you've got it, but it's not a dealbreaker. If you know your way around heavy plant and hydraulics and you're keen to learn, we'll back you.

What's in it for you

  • Competitive remuneration that reflects your trade and experience.

  • Work on some of the largest and most technically interesting transport projects in the country.

  • A crew that knows its gear and takes pride in getting it right.

  • A genuine path to build SPMT-specific skills with a global business.
