Build gear that matters.

Thompson Longhorn designs and manufactures practical, hard-working livestock handling equipment used across the Australian beef industry.

Our gear helps make cattle handling safer, improves animal welfare, and creates safer workplaces for producers and handlers. We’re proud of what we build — and we’re looking for someone who wants to be part of that.

Important: this role is based in Goomburra

Our workshop is located in Goomburra, Queensland. This is an onsite workshop role, so you’ll need to be able to reliably travel to Goomburra for work each day.

About the role

We’re looking for a Welder / Fabricator to join our manufacturing team.

You don’t need to be trade qualified. What we do need is someone with some general welding, fabrication, workshop, or hands-on experience — and the right attitude.

If you can read a tape, work safely, take pride in your finish, and want to keep improving, we can provide the on-the-job training needed to get you up to speed with our products, processes, and standards.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be involved in the fabrication and welding of livestock handling equipment and components, including:

  • Welding and fabricating steel components

  • Measuring, cutting, fitting, and assembling parts

  • Working from drawings, specs, jigs, and instructions

  • Finishing work to a neat, reliable standard

  • Preparing jobs for the next stage of production

  • Keeping your work area safe, clean, and organised

  • Working with the team to meet production targets

What we’re looking for

You don’t need to tick every box, but the right person will bring:

  • Some welding, fabrication, workshop, mechanical, or hands-on trade experience

  • Ability to measure accurately and follow instructions

  • A good eye for neat, practical work

  • Reliability and a strong work ethic

  • Willingness to learn and take feedback

  • A safety-first mindset

  • Forklift licence — essential

Highly regarded, but not essential

  • MIG welding experience

  • Fabrication or production welding experience

  • Experience using jigs

  • Experience in manufacturing, agriculture, machinery, structural, or heavy fabrication environments

  • Ability to read basic drawings

Why join Thompson Longhorn?

  • Full-time permanent role

  • Standard working hours

  • Remuneration negotiable based on experience and capability

  • On-the-job training provided

  • Stable work with a respected Australian manufacturer

  • Practical, interesting products that are used across the livestock industry

  • Supportive team environment

  • A company that values leadership, integrity, collaboration, enjoyment, and accountability
