About the role

Smithtran Livestock Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Diesel Fitter to join our team in Mount Garnet, QLD. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in maintaining and servicing our equipment and machinery. As a Diesel Fitter, you will be responsible for ensuring all equipment operates at peak performance and reliability, directly supporting the efficient operation of our business. This role is essential to our operations and offers the opportunity to work with quality equipment in a professional environment.

What you'll be doing

1. Diagnose, repair and maintain all equipment

2. Perform routine servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment

3. Identifying and replacing worn or faulty parts on all equipment

4. Maintain detailed service records and documentation for all repairs and maintenance work completed

5. Troubleshoot mechanical issues and implement effective solutions to minimise downtime

6. Ensure all work is completed in accordance with safety regulations and company standards

7. Liaise with other team members to coordinate maintenance schedules and support operational requirements

8. Must be able to work autonomously at times

What we're looking for

1. A recognised apprenticeship or formal qualification in diesel fitting, mechanical engineering or equivalent trade discipline

2. Minimum 3–5 years of hands-on experience as a Diesel Fitter or similar mechanical trade role

3. Strong knowledge of mechanical principles, hydraulics and pneumatic systems

4. Ability to read technical drawings, manuals and specification documents

5. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

6. Reliable, punctual and committed to maintaining high safety and quality standards

7. Valid driver's license and willingness to undertake further training as required

8. Physical fitness to perform manual work, including lifting and working in various positions

9. Valid work authorisation to work in Australia
