QLD Testing Services is seeking multiple Trainee and Experienced Construction Materials Testing Technicians to join our growing team in Hervey Bay, Queensland.

These full-time positions are suited to people looking to either start or continue a long-term career in the construction materials testing industry. We are open to applicants with no previous testing experience, as well as experienced technicians who are looking for a fresh opportunity with a growing local business.

For trainees, no previous industry experience is required. Successful applicants must have a strong willingness to learn, take instruction and develop good technical habits from the start. For experienced technicians, we are looking for people who already understand the importance of accurate testing, reliable reporting, safety and compliance.

What you’ll be doing

As a Trainee or Experienced Technician, your duties may include:

• Assisting with, learning or performing field and laboratory testing of soil, concrete and construction materials

• Setting up, calibrating and operating testing equipment correctly

• Carrying out compaction testing, concrete testing, sampling and laboratory procedures

• Recording accurate test data and maintaining clear documentation

• Following correct test methods, traceability requirements and reporting procedures

• Helping maintain testing equipment, vehicles and work areas in a clean and organised condition

• Following company procedures, safety requirements and technical instructions

• Supporting civil construction projects on site and in the laboratory

• Developing or applying knowledge of Australian Standards, TMR requirements and NATA compliance

• Working with senior staff, asking questions where required and contributing to a strong team environment

What we’re looking for

We are looking for people with the right attitude, whether you are new to the industry or already experienced.

The ideal applicants will have:

• A genuine interest in construction materials testing

• Strong attention to detail and a focus on accuracy

• Good basic maths, reading and writing skills

• The ability to follow written and verbal instructions

• Reliability, punctuality and a strong work ethic

• A willingness to work outdoors, in the laboratory and on construction sites

• Good communication skills

• A practical mindset and willingness to perform hands-on work

• A strong commitment to workplace health and safety

• A current driver’s licence or the ability to obtain one

• Previous experience in construction materials testing, civil construction, trades, labouring or technical work would be highly regarded

For experienced technicians, previous field testing, laboratory testing, concrete testing, compaction testing, sampling, reporting or signatory experience will be viewed favourably.
