About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our team at our Chelsea Heights VIC facility on a full-time basis. This is a critical position within our operations, responsible for ensuring that all mechanical equipment and machinery operates efficiently and reliably. You will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity of our production systems, minimising downtime, and supporting our commitment to delivering consistent quality to our customers. This position requires someone with strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance.

Key responsibilities

1. Perform routine preventative maintenance on all bakery machinery and production equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity

2. Diagnose and repair mechanical faults and breakdowns promptly to minimise production disruptions

3. Conduct regular inspections of equipment, identifying potential issues before they develop into critical failures

4. Maintain detailed maintenance logs and documentation of all work performed, parts used, and equipment servicing schedules

5. Operate and troubleshoot machinery using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment

6. Perform machinery calibration and alignment to ensure safe and accurate operation

7. Collaborate with production staff to understand equipment requirements and communicate maintenance needs effectively

8. Support the implementation of maintenance improvement initiatives and contribute to continuous operational excellence

9. Adhere to all health and safety, food safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment

What we're looking for

1. Completed apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering, fitting, turning, or machining

2. Minimum 3-5 years of practical experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably in a manufacturing or food production environment

3. Strong proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and mechanical diagnostic equipment

4. Solid understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems

5. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and maintenance manuals

6. Knowledge of preventative maintenance practices and equipment servicing procedures and documentation

7. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team

8. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all maintenance work

9. Excellent communication skills and the ability to document work clearly and concisely

10. Current driver's license

11. Valid forklift certification or willingness to obtain (desirable)

12. Experience with bakery or food production equipment (preferred but not essential)
