This is a hybrid hands-on leadership role for an experienced restoration professional. Whether your background is panel beating or spray painting, you'll work on high-quality classic vehicle restorations while helping supervise workflow, maintain quality standards, mentor team members, and ensure projects move efficiently through the workshop.
Ol' School Garage is a specialist workshop focused on classic restorations, hot rods, and custom builds - built to a standard you can be proud of.
We're a small, experienced team that values craftsmanship, problem-solving, and doing the job right the first time. Our work is varied, challenging, and involves full vehicle builds rather than repetitive production work.
Rust repairs and panel fabrication
Metal shaping and hammer & dolly work
Panel fitment, alignment and gapping
Repairing and replacing panels and structural components
Welding (MIG, TIG and Oxy)
English wheel, shrinker/stretcher and bead roller experience
Coachbuilding experience
High-end restoration painting and refinishing
Show-quality preparation, blocking, long blocking and finishing
Colour matching, paint mixing and blending
Surface preparation including sanding, masking and cleaning
Wet sanding, de-nibbing, buffing and polishing
Panel fitment, gapping and body line consistency
Knowledge of restoration paint products, systems and processes
Assist with daily workshop planning and job allocation
Coordinate workflow between body, paint and assembly departments
Maintain quality control standards across all projects
Support and mentor apprentices and tradespeople
Monitor project progress and labour efficiency
Work closely with management to improve workshop performance
Help deliver projects on time and to budget
Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements, including correct PPE usage, safe work practices, and maintaining a clean and organised workshop environment.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Extensive panel beating and spray painting experience
Restoration experience necessary
Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
High attention to detail and pride in workmanship
Strong problem-solving ability and initiative
Commitment to quality, accountability and teamwork
Previous workshop foreman or supervisor experience
Experience with classic and custom vehicles
Experience managing restoration projects from start to finish
Working across full and partial vehicle restorations
