About the role

Brighter Building FNQ Pty Ltd is seeking a Qualified Carpenter to join our growing team in Weipa, QLD. This is a full-time position that offers the opportunity to contribute to a variety of building and construction projects in the Far North Queensland region. As a Qualified Carpenter, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality carpentry work, ensuring projects are completed to specification, on time and within budget. This position is based on-site in Weipa QLD 4874, where you will work alongside our skilled team to carry out a diverse range of projects across residential, commercial and mining projects.

Accommodation and work vehicle is supplied, with plenty of time off over the weekends to explore everything living in the cape can offer! From camping to fishing and everything in between, maybe Weipa is the sea change you've been looking for!

Key responsibilities

1. Measure, cut and shape timber and other materials according to specifications and blueprints

2. Assemble and install doors, windows, stairs, shelving and other wooden fixtures and fittings

3. Install fences, erect shade structures and skillion roofs

4. Construct and erect wooden frameworks, roof trusses and formwork for concrete work

5. Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to complete carpentry tasks

6. Read and interpret architectural plans, drawings and technical specifications

7. Ensure all work is completed to Australian Building Standards and relevant safety regulations

8. Prepare work sites and manage materials efficiently

9. Collaborate with other tradespeople and site teams to ensure project continuity

10. Maintain tools and equipment in good working order

11. Report any site hazards and contribute to a safe working environment

What we're looking for

1. A valid, recognised carpentry qualification or apprenticeship completion (Certificate III in Carpentry or equivalent)

2. Able to pass a drug and alcohol test, Rio Tinto medical and RSHQ lung screening

3. Current White Card (Construction Induction Card) or willingness to obtain one

4. Proven experience working as a carpenter in building and construction environments

5. Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques, materials and best practice methods

6. Competency with hand tools and power tools commonly used in carpentry

7. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications accurately

8. A solid understanding of health and safety requirements on construction sites

9. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

10. Strong communication and teamwork skills

11. Physical fitness and ability to work at heights and in various weather conditions

12. Reliability, punctuality and a positive work attitude
