About the role

101 Construction Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Qualified Carpenter / Leading Hand (On the Tools) to join our team in Wangara, WA. This is a full-time position where you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality carpentry work whilst providing guidance and mentorship to our carpentry team. As a leading hand, you will combine hands-on carpentry expertise with supervisory responsibilities, ensuring projects are completed to the highest standards whilst maintaining safety and efficiency on site. This role is integral to our operations, requiring both hands on skill and strong leadership capabilities.

What you'll be doing

  1. Execute high-quality carpentry work across residential and commercial building projects, working on the tools daily

  2. Lead and supervise carpentry teams on site, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, project specifications and timelines

  3. Mentor and coach junior carpenters, providing on-the-job training and guidance to develop their skills

  4. Inspect completed carpentry work to ensure it meets quality standards and contractual requirements

  5. Liaise with project managers, builders and clients to discuss project requirements, progress and any challenges

  6. Interpret and work from technical drawings, plans and specifications accurately

  7. Identify resource requirements and assist in coordinating materials, tools and scheduling for projects

  8. Maintain a safe, clean and organised work environment in compliance with relevant safety regulations and company policies

  9. Identify and report potential risks, safety hazards and defects to management

  10. Undertake other duties as assigned to support project delivery

What we're looking for

  1. Current qualification as a Carpenter (relevant apprenticeship completion or formal qualification)

  2. Carpentry qualification must be either Certificate III or Certificate IV in Carpentry

  3. Minimum 3+ years' experience working as a qualified carpenter in the building and construction industry

  4. Proven experience in a leading hand or supervisory capacity on construction sites

  5. Strong knowledge of carpentry techniques, materials, tools and best practices relevant to residential and commercial construction

  6. Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings accurately

  7. Current drivers licence (WA)

  8. Current White Card (Construction Induction Card)

  9. Current First Aid certification or willingness to obtain

  10. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, motivate and mentor team members effectively

  11. Problem-solving mindset with the ability to work through challenges independently

  12. Commitment to health and safety practices and procedures on site

  13. Must hold valid Australian work rights (any valid work visa accepted)

  14. Experience with relevant carpentry software or digital tools is advantageous

  15. Knowledge of relevant WA building codes and standards is desirable
