Full time
Capital Design Works designs, manufactures and installs premium custom joinery and gaming environments for clubs, pubs and casinos across NSW, QLD and VIC. We run our own in-house factory in Sydney and deliver end-to-end from concept to install — drafting, machining, assembly, finishing and on-site fit-out all under one roof.
We've grown to around 30 staff and a 3,500 sqm factory because we do work that's actually built to a standard. We're hiring another cabinetmaker on the bench because the work is there and we want another set of skilled hands who can keep up.
This is a hands-on bench cabinetmaker role. You'll be building custom commercial joinery — poker machine bases, privacy screens, hobs (including curved hobs), bar joinery, reception desks, full gaming-room fit-outs and one-off bespoke pieces.
This is a worker role, not a leading hand role. You're on the tools, building. You're not supervising other cabinetmakers, you're not running the floor, and you're not chasing other people's work. We have a Production Manage for that. Your job is to build well, build fast, and finish what you start.
You'll work in a fixed bench team of two, with the same partner most of the time, so you build rhythm and trust.
Reading shop drawings and cut lists, working out the build sequence, getting it done
Bench assembly of cabinets and bespoke pieces
Hardware install — hinges, runners, locks, handles, soft-close, push-to-open
Site-applied edging, scribing, hand-fitting where needed
Working with melamine, laminate, veneer, solid timber, metal trims
Quality-checking your own work before it leaves your bench — pre-assembly and pre-dispatch checks
Keeping your area, tools and the pallet store tidy and organised
Talking to the machinist, the storeman and your Production Supervisor when something's missing or wrong — early, not late
A trade-qualified cabinetmaker (Cert III in Cabinet Making or equivalent), or someone with the runs on the board who can prove the trade
You know how long a job should take and you work to that. You don't pad hours and you don't cut corners
You hit deadlines. If a job's due Friday, it ships Friday
You're fast and productive on the bench — but the quality is right the first time
You take pride in your work. A door that doesn't sit right or a panel with a chip in the edge bothers you and you fix it
You spot problems early and call them out instead of building over the top of them
You turn up on time, you work the day, and you finish strong
You can read commercial shop drawings and follow them accurately
Reliable transport to our Sydney factory
Commercial joinery or shopfitting experience (vs purely residential / kitchens)
Hospitality or club fit-out experience
Experience with CNC-nested commercial work
Experience with curved workand laminated components
Site experience — handy if we need an extra pair of hands on an install occasionally
$40 – $45 per hour + super, based on experience and what you bring to the bench
Full-time, Monday to Friday, day shift — overtime when it's there and you want it
Permanent role, not labour hire
Modern factory across two connected buildings — proper machinery, proper dust extraction, proper tools
Genuine premium work. You'll see your stuff installed in real venues, not flat-pack
A factory that's run properly: clear daily plans, daily standups, real quality gates, real respect for the trade
A Production Manager whose job is to make your job easier, not harder
Long-term security — we have long term comitments on both buildings, we've got pipeline, and we're growing
A workplace that doesn't expect you to be a manager, run the floor or solve other people's problems — your job is to build
A residential kitchen shop
A flat-pack assembler
A labour-hire revolving door
A place where the tradesman has to be the leading hand, the storeman, the scheduler and the QA at the same time
Hit "Apply" on Seek with your resume. A short cover note telling us:

Photos of work you're proud of are welcome — they go a long way with us.
Applications reviewed as they come in. We're hiring as soon as we find the right person.
