About the role

We’re looking for an experienced HV Technician to take ownership of commissioning and testing activities across a range of transmission and distribution substation projects

This is a hands-on field and delivery role where you will lead protection testing activities, support energisation programs, and work closely with engineering and delivery teams to bring complex HV assets into service safely and efficiently.

Work is based across Sydney, with no long-term travel or extended time away from home required, giving you the stability of local project work while still being involved in major HV infrastructure delivery. You will also get a mix of office and field days, perfect for someone who wants both.

You’ll be working across 11kV to 330kV substations, including BESS and renewable energy projects, with exposure to full lifecycle commissioning across protection, secondary systems, and SCADA integration.

What you’ll be doing

• Leading protection relay testing and commissioning activities (bench and site-based)

• Developing and executing relay test plans across a range of protection schemes

• Performing primary and secondary injection testing on substation protection systems

• Carrying out interlock verification checks (electrical and mechanical)

• Executing SCADA validation, including alarms, status points, and remote control testing

• Testing transformer AVR systems and protection IED logic

• Supporting LV ATS sequencing and functional testing

• Commissioning and maintaining substation, BESS, and renewable HV assets

• Reviewing secondary, protection, and communications designs for constructibility and NSP compliance

• Preparing technical reports and supporting continuous improvement in commissioning practices

What we’re looking for

• Electrical trade qualified

• 5 - 10+ years’ experience in transmission and/or distribution substations (11kV–330kV)

• Strong background in protection testing, commissioning, or secondary systems

• Hands-on experience with protection relay testing and IED configuration

• Experience with digital and electro-mechanical protection systems

• SCADA experience (Zenon highly regarded)

• Working knowledge of IEC 61850 systems

• Strong understanding of NSP standards and commissioning processes

• Ability to work independently and take ownership on-site

• Strong problem-solving skills and a practical, safety-first approach
