The Opportunity
To support our continued growth and expanding product roadmap, we're seeking a hands-on Embedded Software / Hardware Engineer to join our team. This is a full-time position located in Edinburgh North.
You'll take ownership across the full product lifecycle — from fast-paced prototyping and proof-of-concept development, through to design for manufacture, compliance, and scaling into volume production.
This role suits someone who:
Enjoys working in a dynamic product development environment
Is technically curious and thrives on solving complex problems across both software and hardware
Is practical and resourceful, willing to roll up their sleeves in the lab
Thinks in a structured way, focusing on reliability, maintainability, and high design quality
Works independently but can collaborate effectively across disciplines when needed
What you will do
Design, develop, and maintain embedded software for ARM Cortex-M, STM32, and ESP32-based systems
Design hardware platforms using STM32, ESP32, and related microcontrollers
Architect robust firmware using C/C++, FreeRTOS, and ESP-IDF frameworks
Implement secure and efficient IoT connectivity solutions including BLE, WiFi, and OTA updates
Develop embedded GUI applications using low-level graphics libraries
Own the schematic and PCB layout process, including component library management
Validate and debug hardware designs through lab testing, including board rework
Participate in CI/CD pipelines to streamline embedded development workflows
Support design for manufacture (DFM) and manage transition of prototypes into volume production
Ideal Experience
Embedded Software
Proficient in C/C++ for embedded systems
Strong experience with STM32, ARM Cortex-M, and ESP32 (using ESP-IDF)
Solid understanding of FreeRTOS and real-time embedded software architecture
Familiar with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins)
Experience with BLE, WiFi, OTA, and other IoT connectivity protocols
Familiarity with embedded GUI/graphics libraries
Embedded Hardware
Skilled in KiCad (or similar) for schematic capture and PCB layout
Strong grasp of library management best practices
Experience in EMC/EMI and ESD design and compliance testing
Knowledgeable in analog and mixed-signal circuits including ADCs and power conditioning
Experience in RF design (antennas, matching networks, etc.)
Comfortable with lab validation: oscilloscopes, soldering, board rework
Understanding of DFM and production processes
Bonus Skills
PLC Proggraming for factory and process automation
Knowledge of Python or scripting
Previous work in automotive electronics and understanding of relevant standards
Experience designing for safety-critical and functional safety systems
