This position plays a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of our Heavy Vehicle Service Centre. As Team Leader, you will be responsible for overseeing workshop activities, managing technician teams, ensuring quality workmanship, and maintaining operational efficiency. This is a hands-on leadership role where your technical expertise and management skills will directly impact our service delivery and business success. This role will have the support and resources of our Charters Towers Branch.
Key responsibilities
Allocate work tasks and monitor progress to ensure timely completion of vehicle repairs and servicing
Conduct quality checks on completed work and ensure all vehicles meet company standards before customer handover
Maintain workshop equipment and coordinate preventative maintenance schedules
Manage workshop inventory, parts ordering, and tool procurement
Communicate with customers regarding vehicle condition, repair requirements, and project timelines
Prepare and review work orders, job sheets, and diagnostic reports
Train and mentor workshop staff on best practices, new techniques, and company procedures
Identify areas for process improvement and implement operational efficiencies
Assist with technical repairs as needed, particularly on complex or specialised work
Liaise with management on workshop performance, staffing needs, and budget matters
What we're looking for
Formal qualifications in automotive mechanics or equivalent trade certification
Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, diagnostic procedures, and repair methodologies
Demonstrated leadership and people management skills with the ability to motivate and develop team members
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Sound understanding of workplace health and safety legislation and requirements
Proficiency in workshop management software and computer systems
Problem-solving capabilities and attention to detail
Customer service orientation and ability to communicate technical information clearly
Valid Driver's Licence is essential
First Aid Certificate is highly desirable
