About the MTA

What is a Panel Beater (Automotive Body Repairer)?
Panel Beaters repair damage to metal, fibreglass and plastic body work on vehicles, and also create replacement panels. Panel Beaters generally work in either crash or restoration workshops.
About the Apprenticeship
Undertake a 4-year Apprenticeship and obtain a Certificate III in Automotive Body Repair Technology and earn a wage at a supportive Host Employer (the MTA will find you a suitable Host Employer)
Learn how to remove damaged panels and parts, and remove upholstery and accessories to gain access
Remove dents using correct procedures and tools
Straighten damaged vehicles and parts using mechanical and hydraulic equipment
Replace damaged panels with new or second-hand ones
Fill in holes with plastic filler
Repair surfaces by filing, grinding and sanding
Cut and join replacement panels on vehicles and refit body hardware including door locks and trims
Attend automotive training at a state-of-the-art training centre
Once qualified you will have a nationally recognised qualification
Training is a combination of in person, online and in the workplace.
About you
Essential:
An Australian citizen / or Permanent Resident
Currently living in South Australia
16 years of age or older
Willing to commit to a 4-year apprenticeship (completely paid for by the MTA)
Driver's Licence- full-time apprentices must have Ps & school-based apprentices must have Ls
Passionate about automotive
Positive attitude
Desirable, but NOT essential:
Have completed a Certificate I or II in Automotive
Completed work experience in the automotive mechanical industry
