Mechanical Fitter – Renewables Division - Rural NSW/WA/QLD

About the Role:

The RIX Group is actively seeking a motivated Mechanical Fitter to join our newly established Renewables team. This is a rare ground-floor opportunity to join a specialist team deploying advanced GPS-guided foundation technology across utility-scale solar farms in WA, QLD and Rural NSW.

We are looking for a strong, reliable Mechanical Fitter with solid heavy plant experience who is willing to learn, take ownership and grow with the team. Full training on the specific machines and systems will be provided. You will be supported from day one.

The Machines:

You will be responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting a fleet of GPS-guided tracked foundation machines specialist equipment used to install solar farm foundations in a single automated pass. These machines combine tracked undercarriages, hydraulic drilling and crimping systems, onboard compressors, mast and chain drive systems. You will be trained on the specifics. Your job is to keep them running.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out daily and weekly preventative maintenance on the foundation machine fleet in accordance with the manufacturer maintenance schedule, fluid levels, greasing, track tension, hose and cable checks, compressor and crimper inspections.

  • Execute the fleet greasing programme and ensure operators are completing their daily pre-start and greasing obligations correctly at the start of every shift.

  • Log machine hours and compressor meter readings daily. Complete and upload the weekly maintenance checklist for each machine as required by the manufacturer.

  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic, mechanical and electrical faults  including hose failures, cylinder leaks, track issues, mast chain faults, compressor problems and drill bit removal and replacement.

  • Manage drill bit and tooling inventory. Monitor bit wear daily, rotate and replace before wear impacts production, and maintain sufficient consumable stock on site.

  • Report daily on fleet status to the Site Manager/Supervisor machines operational, machines out of service, maintenance completed, defects identified and parts on order.

  • Support machine operators with pre-start inspection guidance, greasing requirements and early fault identification.

  • Ensure all work is performed safely and in accordance with RIX and site-specific WHS requirements.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter or equivalent demonstrated experience.

  • Solid background maintaining and repairing hydraulic and mechanical systems on heavy plant or construction equipment.

  • Experience with tracked machines, drill rigs, piling equipment or similar mining, civil or construction background all considered.

  • Willingness to learn new systems and equipment. The specific machines are new to Australia  what matters is your mechanical ability and your attitude.

  • Reliable, self-managing and safety-focused. You take ownership of your machines without being told twice.

  • Available to travel and work site-based across WA, QLD and Rural NSW.

  • Class C driver’s licence. White card or equivalent construction safety induction.
