What's the opportunity?

  • Location: Y Whittlesea sites - Northern Suburbs and Diggers Rest
  • Employment Type: We're open to either a full-time appointment or part-time job share arrangement
  • Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM (negotiable)

As the Maintenance Officer at Y Whittlesea, your role is pivotal in ensuring our facilities are maintained to the highest standards, providing safe and welcoming environments for those we serve. Your work will contribute to Disability services, Children Services, Community Recreation, our Community School, and more.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operational Excellence: Plan and execute routine and corrective maintenance tasks across all areas, from classrooms to recreational spaces ensuring our spaces are safe, welcoming, and maintained to the highest standards.
  • Responsive Service: Address maintenance issues promptly, prioritising those impacting service delivery, and maintain clear communication with all staff.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Implement and monitor health and safety protocols, ensuring all tasks adhere to regulations.
  • Leadership & Collaboration: Ensuring efficient coordination with external contractors.
  • Fleet Management: Oversee the organisation's car fleet - coordinating servicing, repairs and compliance requirements to ensure vehicles remain safe, reliable, and available to support operational needs.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:

  • General facilities management experience or a qualified trade in any of the following fields - Electrician, Plumber, Carpenter, Building, Air-conditioning or Painting.
  • Current Australian Drivers Licence.
  • Have or be able to obtain a Working with Children Check and National Police Check (dated in the last 6 months).
  • A motivated team player with great communication with our families and colleagues alike.
  • A "can do" proactive approach to daily maintenance duties such as painting and fixing smaller items such as lights, taps, handles etc…
  • Excellent planning skills, with the ability to develop and implement maintenance plans, schedules, and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Manage the maintenance budget, effectively optimising resource allocation and cost control.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and codes of practice.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative approach with external vendors and contractors for specialised maintenance tasks and procurement.
  • Be available for on call duty to address maintenance emergencies promptly, overseeing critical situations when required.
