The Role

We are seeking experienced Machinist / Cylindrical Grinder Operators to join our workshop team based in Holden Hill, SA. The role involves operating manual cylindrical grinding machines to produce precision components that meet strict dimensional and surface finish tolerances for a range of advanced engineering applications.

This role is initially expected to support production requirements over the next 6–12 months. For the right candidate, there may be opportunities to transition into ongoing workshop roles, including CNC machining, assembly and other manufacturing functions as business requirements evolve.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual cylindrical grinding machines for external and internal grinding operations

• Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications

• Achieve required tolerances and surface finishes on precision components

• Select, mount and dress grinding wheels as required

• Perform in-process and final inspections using micrometers, calipers and gauges

• Adjust machine settings to maintain quality and efficiency during production runs

• Conduct routine machine maintenance, cleaning and basic troubleshooting

• Maintain a safe and organised work environment

About You

You will have experience in a machining or precision manufacturing environment and take pride in producing high-quality work.

Essential

• Experience operating manual cylindrical grinders

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

• Experience using precision measuring equipment

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

• Reliable, safety-focused and able to work both independently and as part of a team

• Ability to work afternoon shift– 3.00PM to 11.06PM

Desirable

• Trade qualification (e.g. Fitter & Turner) or equivalent industry experience

• Experience with lathes, milling machines or other manual machining equipment

• CNC machining experience or an interest in developing CNC skills

• General workshop fabrication, polishing or finishing experience
